Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden announced today the annual selection of 25 of America’s most influential motion pictures to be inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress because of their cultural, historic and aesthetic importance to the nation’s film heritage. “The National Film Registry turns 30 this year and for those three decades, we have been recognizing, celebrating and preserving this distinctive medium,” Hayden said. — LOC Blog

Films Selected for the 2017 National Film Registry
Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden has announced the 2017 selections to the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress. “Spanning the period 1905 to 2000, the films named to this year’s registry include Hollywood blockbusters, documentaries, silent movies, animation, shorts and independent and home movies. The 2017 selections bring the number of films in the registry to 725, which is a small fraction of the Library’s vast moving-image collection of 1.3 million items.” — LOC Blog

Recordings Selected for the 2016 National Recording Registry
According to the News from the Library of Congress, on March 29, 2017, the Librarian of Congress, Dr. Carla Hayden, named 25 recordings to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress because of their, “cultural, artistic and historical importance to American society and the nation’s audio heritage.”

According to the News from the Library of Congress, on December 14, 2016 the new Librarian of Congress, Carla Hayden, announced, “the annual selection of 25 motion pictures that have been inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress because of their cultural, historic or aesthetic importance.”
We have most of the titles available through CLAMS. If there is a title on the list unavailable in CLAMS you can request a title via the Commonwealth Catalog or contact your local library to receive the item via InterLibrary Loan.

When you search the CLAMS Catalog you will be invited to try our new Encore Search.
What is Encore?
Based on feedback from our users, CLAMS has added an intuitive, yet powerful search option that includes features common to search engines such as Google, commercial web sites, and social networking sites. It is a new way to search for books, DVDs, digital titles, etc. in the CLAMS libraries. Encore is particularly powerful when you begin with a broad search and want to narrow it down.
Encore integrates the patron’s OverDrive eBook checkouts and holds into “My Account” and allows access to articles from Gale General OneFile, an online reference resource provided through the state.
